This page explains what RaysAddiction collects when you read the site, join the list, or leave a take on an article — and how to ask us to stop or delete it.
A Tampa Bay Rays fan publication with broader coverage of baseball throughout Tampa Bay. Not affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays or Major League Baseball.

What we collect
Most visits leave only the technical records any website needs to stay up. We collect an email address when you choose to join or comment. We do not require a phone number, postal address, or extra profile to subscribe or to post a take.
- Email address, when you join or comment.
- Display name and take, when you comment on a story.
- A signed browser cookie that unlocks commenting after you join.
- Technical data such as IP address, browser, date, and the page requested.
Join the Addiction (newsletter)
The Join the Addiction form asks only for an email address. We use that address to send newsletter messages about Tampa Bay baseball: Rays coverage, prospects, history, analysis, and the region.
We do not sell that address. We do not use it for unrelated marketing.
Signups are processed on this site. A notice that includes your address is emailed to us so we can add you to the list. We also store a one-way hash of the address so this site can recognize a returning subscriber without keeping a second public directory of names.
If we later connect a mail provider (for example to send the actual newsletter), that provider will process the same address only to deliver those messages. You can unsubscribe from any message we send.
Comments and identity
Articles use your email to enable commenting. That is the same address as Join the Addiction. We do not run a separate comment-only account.
Until this browser is recognized, the comment box is replaced by Join the Conversation. Submitting your email there both adds you to the newsletter (if you are not already on it) and unlocks the take box. If you are already on the list, enter that same email once on this browser.
When the take box is open we collect the name you type, the email you joined with, and the take itself. The site also stores the date, IP address, and browser string with the comment. Your email is not shown on the story. We do not collect a website field with comments.
New comments on a story close 21 days after it is published. First-time commenters are held for approval. Takes are stored with the story until you ask us to remove them or we take the story down.
Cookies and browser storage
After you join, this site sets a signed cookie named ra_clubhouse. It stores your email so this browser can open the comment box. It lasts six months and is sent only to this site. Clearing cookies on your device removes it; the comment box will ask for your email again.
We do not offer a checkbox to save your name and email in this browser for later comments. Join and comments do not write to local browser storage beyond that clubhouse cookie.
If you log in to help run the site, additional login cookies are set for that session. Those are for operators, not for readers.
Security tools in front of the site may set short-lived cookies to tell people from automated traffic.
Anti-spam
Join and comment forms include hidden honeypot fields, a short timing check, and a one-time token so automated posts fail. Comments that are mostly links, empty, or posted too fast are rejected.
The Join form also runs its own anti-spam checks.
Analytics
We do not currently load a third-party analytics script. If analytics is connected later, this page will be updated.
A visit-statistics service may also record traffic so we can see how the site is used.
Embedded content
A story may include embeds from other sites (for example a video or social post). Those providers can set their own cookies and collect data as if you had visited them directly, especially if you press play. We do not control those policies.
Affiliate links
The RA Shop sends you to Fanatics to buy gear. RaysAddiction may earn a commission on those purchases. Clicks go through Impact.com tracking links. If Impact’s Universal Tracking Tag is installed, Impact may set cookies to attribute those clicks. Fanatics is responsible for payment, shipping, returns, and its own privacy policy once you leave this site.
Server logs
The systems that serve this site record standard logs: IP address, date and time, requested URL, and browser. Logs are kept for a limited operational period to keep the site up, investigate abuse, and recover from failures. We do not use logs to build a marketing profile of readers.
Who processes your email
Depending on what you do on the site, your email or related data may be processed by:
- RaysAddiction, to send the newsletter and to match the email that unlocks commenting.
- This site, to store comments, form notices, and hashes.
- A mail provider, only if and when we connect one to deliver the newsletter.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete the address.
- Comment takes: while they remain on the story, unless you ask us to remove them.
- Clubhouse cookie: six months, or until you clear it.
- Join hashes and operator email notices: until we complete a deletion request.
- Server logs: for a limited operational period.
Your choices and deletion
Unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter message. Clear cookies on your device to drop the clubhouse cookie. Write us to ask that we delete your email, the matching hash, and comments tied to that address.
Use the same address you joined or commented with so we can find the record. We will not be able to erase copies already sitting in backups, in an inbox we already received, or in logs already written, until those copies age out.
We do not sell personal information.
Children
RaysAddiction is a baseball publication for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13. Do not join or comment if you are under 13.
